Elder law services for Louisiana seniors

Millions of Americans who were born during the post-World War II "baby boom" are now firmly ensconced in their 60s. Despite the popular baby boomer title, they are not a monolith. Some are still working, while others have retired. Some are in excellent health, while many are facing physical and/or mental challenges. Their financial situations and marital statuses vary.

Regardless of each person's unique circumstances, most Louisiana seniors find that their legal needs have changed from the years when they were building a career and raising a family. Elder law encompasses a number of areas that seniors find themselves having to deal with for the first time.

It's essential to work with a Louisiana attorney who is not only experienced in dealing with these legal issues but who understands the challenges that seniors face. Many not only have to worry about their own needs but those of both their elderly parents as well as adult children. Some are caring for their grandchildren.

Our firm offers a wide variety of elder law services. An important one, of course, is estate planning. That includes legal documents that help people codify their wishes not only for after their death, but in the event that they become ill or incapacitated and can no longer make decisions for themselves.

Advanced medical directives and living wills can help minimize family disputes and alleviate the burden that too many people face of having to make end-of-life decisions for loved ones. Conservatorships and guardianships may also be essential to estate planning. We help our clients determine which of these items is necessary based on their own situation, family dynamics and other responsibilities.

Elder law includes more than getting the necessary documents in place to ensure that your wishes are carried out and that loved ones will be cared for. Seniors face other unique challenges that may require legal assistance, including age discrimination, elder abuse, grandparents' rights to visitation, and dealing with Medicare or Medicaid programs.

We believe that experienced, compassionate counsel can help clients and their families navigate the sometimes-complicated legal issues that come with getting older. We work to help enable Louisiana seniors to make the most of these years and to do everything we can to minimize their worries about the future.
