Many couples split up before ever reaching the altar, with others breakup years and even decades after getting married. With a divorce rate generally understood to be at about 50 percent, even many engaged couples realize that their odds of staying together are about 50/50. Even so, it can be saddening when close friends divorce, or when a celebrity couple that had been the source of admiration does.
The latter is the case with Nikki Reed, who played Rosalie Hale in the successful Twilight movie series, and Paul McDonald, who rose to stardom on American Idol. A representative for Reed confirmed that the two are ending their marriage after almost two and a half years. According to the representative, Reed and McDonald had been living apart for six months anyway due to their individual work obligations.
The couple first met when McDonald attended the premiere of Amanda Seyfried’s movie “Red Riding Hood” along with other American Idol contestants in 2011. Reed was also in attendance, and she and McDonald hit it off. They moved in together a month later and got engaged a couple months after that. They married in October 2011 to the delight of many of their fans.
Reed had referred to McDonald as her best friend just days before the divorce announcement. However, as people ask why the breakup occurs, speculation centers on the time they had to spend apart for work. This has been a reason for the breakup of other Hollywood couples.
Most couples getting a divorce, including those in Louisiana, don’t have the celebrity status that Reed and McDonald do. However, each divorce does have significant impact on the couple involved. One way to moderate that impact is by securing the advice of an experienced attorney.
